Two stab wounds, one knife and an argument about work

The latest Pattaya news from the outskirts of the resort city is a reminder that not every violent incident happens on Walking Street. On the evening of Tuesday 13 October 2026, a drinking session between two friends at a workers’ camp in Huai Yai turned into a stabbing, and police in Pattaya Thailand had a suspect in custody within minutes.
The victim, a 40-year-old Myanmar man, was rushed to hospital in serious condition. His 37-year-old friend was found in his room with the knife still in his hand. Thailand news outlets covered the arrest, and here is what is known so far.
What happened at the Huai Yai camp
At about 9.10pm, Huai Yai Police Station received a report of a stabbing at a workers’ accommodation camp in the Huai Yai area of Banglamung district, a few kilometres inland from Pattaya’s beachfront. Officers and volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation headed to the scene.
According to The Pattaya News, the two men were friends who had been drinking together outside the camp. The conversation turned to work, an argument followed, and the argument became a physical fight. The older man, identified as Sai San Win, 40, was stabbed twice in the left side of his torso, close to the ribs.
Rescue workers gave first aid at the camp and took him to a nearby hospital. He was reported to be in serious condition, and no update on his recovery had been published at the time of writing.
Suspect found in his room holding the knife
When police arrived they did not have to search. The suspect, named as Mr Kyaw, 37, was still inside a room at the camp, holding a short, pointed knife. Officers secured the scene, detained him without a chase and seized the blade as evidence.
Near a table outside the accommodation, they found the signs of a struggle: empty alcohol bottles and damaged belongings. That matches the account of a drinking session that got out of hand, though investigators have not yet said who struck first or whether anyone else was present.
Detectives are now interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence before deciding which legal action to pursue. No formal charge had been reported when this article was published. Mr Kyaw is a suspect, not a convicted offender, and the circumstances are still being established.

Living in Thailand’s labour camps: alcohol, pressure and short fuses
Banglamung district, which includes Pattaya, depends on a large migrant workforce. Construction crews, factory staff, kitchen workers and farm labourers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos live in camps and rented rooms across Huai Yai, Nong Prue and Pong. Most keep their heads down and send money home, and the vast majority of them never see a police station.
But crowded housing, long shifts and cheap alcohol are a combination that local police know well. Fights between friends and co-workers are among the most common call-outs on the edge of the city, and a knife within arm’s reach turns a shouting match into a hospital case. Pattaya has seen several similar incidents this autumn, including a knife attack that police were still tracing a suspect for only a couple of weeks ago.
Under Thai law, a stabbing that causes serious injury can be charged as causing grievous bodily harm, or as attempted murder if prosecutors believe there was intent to kill. Which route police take usually depends on the wound locations, the weapon, the history between the men and what witnesses say. If the victim does not survive, the case changes completely.
Staying safe: a Thailand travel guide note for Pattaya
Nothing in this case suggests risk to tourists. It was a private dispute between two friends at a camp well away from the beach roads. Still, it is a useful reminder for anyone reading a Thailand travel guide: the sensible rules are the same everywhere. Avoid heated arguments when alcohol is involved, walk away from a quarrel that is getting personal, and call the Tourist Police on 1155 if a situation turns dangerous.
Pattaya remains an easy base for visitors. Popular things to do in Pattaya include day trips to Koh Larn and other Thailand islands, the Sanctuary of Truth, night markets, golf and long Thai food crawls through the city’s street stalls. Budget travel Thailand fans often find a week here cheaper than the same time in Bangkok, while Bangkok news and the capital’s things to do in Bangkok — temples, markets, Bangkok food tours — are only two hours away by road.
Planning a longer stay? Anyone considering living in Thailand should read up on the Thailand visa and immigration rules first. The best time to visit Thailand for cooler, drier weather runs roughly from November to February, which also lines up with Thai festivals such as Loy Krathong. Our Pattaya guide collects the essentials.
What happens next in this Thai news case
Mr Kyaw remains in police custody while detectives take statements and wait to learn how badly Mr Sai San Win is hurt. The charge will depend on that medical assessment and on what the witnesses say about how the fight began. We will update this Pattaya news report when police announce formal charges or the victim’s condition changes.
The case is one more entry in Pattaya’s crowded October crime log, and a reminder that the city’s trouble is not confined to its nightlife strips.
