We get things wrong. When we do, we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing. This page explains how to tell us, what we do about it, and how you will know a page has been changed.
Reporting an error
Use the contact page. It helps enormously if you include:
- The URL of the page, or its exact headline.
- The specific sentence or figure you believe is wrong — not just "this article is inaccurate".
- What you believe the correct position is, and where that comes from, if you can. A link to an official source or the original report is the single most useful thing you can send.
You do not need to be the subject of an article to report an error in it, and you do not need to give a reason for asking.
What happens next
We aim to acknowledge a correction request within two working days. What follows depends on what we find:
- A factual error — a wrong name, date, figure, location or attribution — is corrected in the article itself. The article's updated date changes, and where the error was material we add a short, visible note at the foot of the piece saying what was wrong and when it was fixed. We do not quietly rewrite a sentence and pretend the original never existed.
- A story that has moved on — charges dropped, a conviction overturned, a rule that never took effect — is updated with the new position and the date it changed. Where the outcome materially reverses what the original piece said, that goes at the top, not buried at the bottom.
- A typo or broken link is simply fixed. Trivial corrections do not move the article's updated date, because that date is meant to signal a change in substance and would be worthless if we moved it for a misplaced comma.
- A disagreement about interpretation rather than fact — we will say so, and explain our reasoning. We will not pretend a difference of opinion is a correction, in either direction.
Removal requests
We do not delete accurate, properly sourced reporting because a subject would prefer it were not there. We will consider removal or amendment where a page is factually wrong, where its subject is at genuine risk, where a legal position has changed — for example an acquittal — or where an image has been used without the rights to use it. Tell us which of those applies and give us what you can to support it.
Images
If you are a photographer or publisher and an image of yours appears on this site in a way you have not agreed to, contact us and we will take it down while we check, rather than after. Our editorial standards page explains how image provenance is recorded.
If you are not satisfied
Say so, in the same thread, and ask for it to be looked at again. ThaiThuk is published by Genext Information Systems; a complaint that is not resolved by the person who answered you first will be escalated within the company. We are a small independent publisher and not a member of a press regulator, so we would rather be plain about that than imply an appeal route that does not exist.
